Defecation

The act of expulsion of waste material from the bowels.

A tree diagram used to depict relationships between taxa.

Two chromosomes both imparted from each parent (mother & father).
Discordant Variation

Two or multiple changing characteristics that are independant on the same geographical location for instance the occurrence of melanism in northern populations and time spent basking that is mirrored in a different geographic location.

Disecdysis
A bad shed meaning that some of the old skin was not properly shed as it should of been.
Dispersal
The radiation of animals from a population into previously unpopulated areas or the migration of animals from the place of their hatching (or birth).
Display

Often an act to deter would be predators from attacking a reptile (threat display) but also used to attract sexual partners in ’courtship displays’.

Diurnal
Diurnal - term used to describe day active behaviour.

Dead on Road a term used by field herpers when encountering a dead animal on the road or the side of the road.

Dorsal
Dorsal - term used to describe the upper surface of an animal usually also referring to its sides as well as its back.
